My Research process
Ever since traveling to London, England two years ago, I have been infatuated with both traveling and European countries. Ever since then, I have been researching different countries and their history to hopefully one day travel to. Not long before this research project was assigned, I stumbled across a National Geographic edition about The Netherlands and their agricultural techniques. Since I had never really researched The Netherlands, I was surprised at what the article said about the tiny country. They are agriculturally self-sufficient. Considering that even the huge country of the United States can not say the same, I was shocked to say the least. So, when we got this research project, I knew I had to use The Netherlands as my subject. However, one of the first challenges I encountered in this project was what to tie the agricultural techniques to. As I thought about this problem, I realized that world hunger would be the perfect tie. This is because The Netherlands has already started partnering with third-world countries to help implement their technologies and practices, so I already had built-in evidence.
I first hypothesized that world hunger could be solved by using The Netherlands techniques alone. However I quickly realized that it would be naive to think that such a big problem like world hunger could be solved by one method alone. They have to be coupled with the reduction of pesticides, animal product consumption and waste. This development caused met to change both my research question and my thesis. I was expecting to find only a few articles about The Netherlands agricultural techniques specifically but I was surprised to find a large amount on The Netherlands. I was also expecting the articles to just discuss The Netherlands techniques and nothing else but the majority of them actually tied The Netherlands to some kind of solution for world hunger.
One thing that bothered me about some of the articles that I read was the fact that some critics assumed that The Netherlands tactics weren't viable because of the technology they used. It surprised me that people assume that technology will phase out and not be used anymore, when in fact it will probably be quite the opposite. Technology already consumes our lives and will only continue to consume it more and more. Just these simple facts are why The Netherlands agricultural techniques will actually work.
No major developments are happening with my research . The Netherlands have continued to be a major force in promoting a clean environment, which is one factor connected to world hunger. They recently decided to ban to begin the ban of gasoline and diesel cars over the next few decades. Proactive countries like these are the countries only real hope for getting ending world hunger.
