The people of the netherlands
Before discussing the people of The Netherlands, there are three terms that need to be defined: Holland, The Netherlands and Dutch. The German word "Dutch" originally referred to both the people of Germany and The Netherlands, but since they gained their independence in the seventeenth century the word now refers only to The Netherlands. The Netherlands is simply used to describe people from the region of The Netherlands and Holland also describes people from The Netherlands. For centuries, The Netherlands has provided a safe place for ethnic minorities fleeing their mother country. This is one of the many reasons that The Netherlands is so culturally and ethnically diverse. The people of The Netherlands pride themselves on this fact, something that caused most Dutch people to reject nationalism. The people of The Netherlands are very hospitable and welcoming because of this.
